The Mind (Part 1)

The mind:
  • seat of thought and memory
  • the center of consciousness that generates thoughts, feelings, ideas, and perceptions, and stores knowledge and memories
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that  good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

When we are born again, God creates within us a new creation, a new man. In  2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul speaks of this new creation, which is our spirit, which is the real you. You are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body. Although most people are only body conscious, God created us as spirit beings.

The mind of man-kind is part of man's soul, along with our will and emotions. The mind is not the spirit of man, therefore it was not re-created when we became Christian's. In order for the mind of man to experience change or transformation we must begin a process called "renewing the mind," according to; Romans 12:2.

The word transform is defined:
     •   To change into another form.
Synonyms for the word transform: change, alter, convert, make over, and renovate.

God wants to renovate your mind, isn't that good news!
We can all make an appointment at God's spiritual beauty shop (the bible) and get a mind make-over!

When sin entered into the world after man's great transgression, our mind's became corrupt, we no longer thought like God.
Genesis 6:5 gives a vivid picture of man's mind after the fall.
·        And God saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.

Our thoughts and imaginations were no longer pure like God's thoughts; they had become tainted, poisoned, defiled through sin. (see Isaiah 55:8)

Renew
•To replace something that is worn, broken, or no longer suitable for use.
•To begin something or doing something again, or be begun again.

Once sin corrupted our minds, infecting our thoughts and imaginations, they were no longer suitable for use by God. God needed to begin again, so,  He gave us access to the mind of Christ through the the new birth and the impartation and revelation of His Word.

James 1:21
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Now that we are back in the family of God we have a right by inheritance to think like our Heavenly Father. The mind now has the liberty to return back to God's original plan for which He created it. God never intended for man to have a confused, stressed, or oppressed mind. God never intended for man-kind to think evil against each other. God never intended for man-kind's mind to be depressed or harassed by thoughts of failure, suicide, low self-esteem, guilt, shame, condemnation, fear, hopelessness, etc. God created our minds to be free from anxieties and fears, His intent was that we have a sound mind.

God loves you and His desire for you is that your mind would be filled with perfect peace, not chaos and strife. The way that we obtain and maintain a mind filled with perfect peace is by saturating our minds with the Word of God ( read Isaiah 26:3).

God's Word can Detoxify your mind, ridding it of the deadly toxins produced by sin. God's Word will change the way you think and the things you think about. God's Word will produce an atmosphere of calm in your thought life and create a sanctified  imagination. God's Word will guard your mind from the perpetual elusiveness of fantasy while building a strong foundation of  stability and rest. God's Word will allow you to lie down at night in peace and your sleep will be sweet.
