Faithful Unto Death

Revelation 2:9-11 (AMP)

I know your affliction and distress and pressing trouble and your poverty--but you are rich! and how you are abused and reviled and slandered by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Fear nothing that you are about to suffer. [Dismiss your dread and your fears!] Behold, the devil is indeed about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested and proved and critically appraised, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be loyally faithful unto death [even if you must die for it], and I will give you the crown of life. He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the Spirit says to the assemblies (churches). He who overcomes (is victorious) shall in no way be injured by the second death.

Listen defined:
• To pay attention to something and take it into account.

Many times we hear God but are we listening with the intent to do. In order to be faithful one must first hear instruction. How can a person be faithful or loyal if they won’t listen? Faithfulness is partner to passion. If a person is not passionate about a cause they are generally not faithful to it. When a husband or wife lose their passion or excitement about each other and their marriage vows, they will soon become unfaithful. When a person is passionate about something it usually is a priority to them. When something is priority you will fight for it. God said you would be willing to die for it. The cause of Christ is a greater priority then our feeling during a time of persecution or suffering.
Faithfulness is a fruit of the spirit therefore it cannot be accomplished in the flesh. The bible says that the flesh profits nothing. A person can never be faithful to anything or anybody apart from God. God enables us by His grace to be faithful unto death. That’s why when people make promises out of their flesh thy soon renege.

I believe being faithful unto death speaks more than just about physical death. I believe it is also speaking of dying to self in order to be faithful to God. We must deny fleshly desires and lust and cleave to God. We must be faithful to God above our feelings and selfish thoughts and ways. Jesus said if any man will come after me let him first deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. When something is important to us we will chose it over other things. Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. How can we say that we love God or others when we habitually are unfaithful to them? Unfaithfulness is a characteristic of love of self or selfishness.

We must be willing to suffer for godliness rather than deny Christ. There is nothing we could go through or suffer on this earth that would be worth being unfaithful to Him.

God knows our struggles here on the earth and therefore He has given us access to everything we need to win in this life.

2Peter 1:3-4
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Remember to be faithful to the one who has never been unfaithful to you! God is forever faithful.

Making The Right Choices

Sometimes in life we can be faced with tough decisions. Should I stay or should I go? Decisions we make everyday can be life altering, they can result in life or death. Some decisions we make are very simple and nonessential. What shall I eat for dinner tonight or what flavor ice cream for dessert? Generally, the answers to those questions are not life threatening and carry a minimal degree of importance or risk. However, there are decisions we must make in life that are vital to our daily life and success. There maybe decisions we have to make that involve more than just our own lives.
How do we make tough decisions? How do we resolve what to do, when we don't know what to do?

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God has every answer we will ever need to make the right decisions for our lives and those who trust us to make decisions involving their lives. He will never fail us. All we need to do is come to Him and ask for help. Why shop around when the Greater One lives right on the inside of you? No one has greater counsel than God and besides He is always available.

Your life is too precious to entrust to the opinions of mere unchanged men. God says that our thoughts are not His thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). When we seek human guidance we limit and obscure godly wisdom. We must trust God and seek Him for every area of our lives not just the things and/or situations that seem impossible. He wants to be involved in everyday life. He said in the above scripture - in all our ways to acknowledge Him. Many times people are so use to controlling their own lives and making all the decisions themselves that when they really seek God for help they are unfamiliar with His ways so they miss out on His instructions. They are so use to doing things their own way without any Divine input that they overlook the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit, our Comforter.

Making the right decision involves seeking with patience and persistence the plans and purposes of God and not being in a hurry to carelessly and anxiously rush into choosing without His counsel.

Jeremiah 33:3 (AMP)
Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).
So slow down and be willing to throw down every thought and suggestion that comes to you to tempt you into making your own decisions without God. Practice waiting on The Lord and be of good courage!

We Are Family

It is such a tragedy to see some people let their God given gifts and talents waste away through mere neglect.

Proverbs 29:18 (AMP)
Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]--blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he.

Pursuing man-made plans is just like having no plan and/or vision at all for your life. If a plan is not from God it will not amount to anything of true value. God did not create man to follow after their own lusts and desires. God created you and I with a purpose already in mind.

The scriptures declare: For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (Ephesians 2:10 AMP).

God has a good life prepared for each and every one of us. He has not prepared a life of pain and misery for us, He loves us. The devil is the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy, not God. The devil is the one who robs a person of their destiny and true purpose in life. Satan is stealth with his lies and deceit, enslaving and bring people into bondage; capturing anyone who will not resist his bait or deceitful speech. His thoughts and images flood the mind of innocent people. He poses as a friend, but really is a foe. He assaults the mind and brain through spiritual seduction and sometimes violent acts of spiritual rape, impregnating the soul with tainted seeds of destruction. He is a sinister being, he is filled with evil and corruption.

However, Jesus is our Savior, He came so that we could receive true life and have the good life more abundantly. He came to redeem us from a life of bondage and corruption. He gave His life so that you and I could have eternal life, never again to be under the dominion of sin and death. He came so that we could live the good life. However, we must be willing to put God first, He should always be our first love.

God has prepared paths for us; however, we are the ones who must seek them out. So many times people are treading through life doing their own thing not regarding God’s plans and purposes for their lives. They meet up with frustration after frustration, as if swimming through thick muddy waters. They blame God on the delays, disappointments and lack of progress in their lives, yet they never seek Him on any consistent basis to find out the true purpose and plan for their lives. They struggle, fret, and then regret the dawning of every new day.

A pitiful sight to behold one would tend to think but what is it that actually keeps them from the will of God? Is it deception? Is it laziness or self-centeredness? Is it rebellion or hidden pride? Is it a lack of direction or mere cloudy perception? Is it spiritual malnutrition or just a simple lack of spiritual attention? Are they feeble minded or do they just not care? Is it condemnation or past failures? Is it depression or oppression or an old familiar family curse?

Get Your Focus Back

Thank you for taking the time to invest in your future by ingesting some vital nutrients from the Word of God. My prayer for you is that as you read and meditate on what God is saying to you through these scriptures you will be enlightened by the Holy Spirit and receive strength for your journey.

God the Father says to us, Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10)

So be encouraged, you are chosen and loved of God – He will not fail you!

Now my friend, today I would like to talk to you about getting your focus back. It is so very vital that you understand God’s plan and purpose for your life. Your life is valuable to God and to those in whom He has entrusted to you to cross their paths in this life. However, what you choose to focus your attention on from day to day can determine how your life will turn out even though God has a specific plan, just for you. A vision without focus is generally an accident waiting to happen.

 Focus defined:
·        The center of interest or activity
·        An act of concentrating interest or activity on something

As you can see from the above definition, focus is what captures (imprisons) your attention. It is the center piece of the table of your life. No matter what angle you look at your life this interest, thing, person, place, thoughts, imaginations, affection etc. has become the center of your concentration.

So let me ask you a few questions:
1.      What have you been concentrating on in your life?
2.      Has it caused you to drift away from God’s original instructions for your life?
3.      How often do you think and/or meditate on it?
4.      The things that currently have the majority of your attention and affection are they causing you to draw nearer to God or is it  stealing time from your relationship with God?

Focus can be powerfully life changing. Focus can cause you to succeed or fail.

The bible teaches us to focus our attention on specific things, this does not mean you won’t be able to glance at other things as you travel life’s journey. However focus is a more deliberate, intense, single-mindedness kind of approach to something rather than just merely glancing at something from time to time. The bible instructs us;

Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:1-3

From these scriptures we see that focus is something we must practice. Continued practice eventually makes habits, good or bad. Habits help establish how we conduct our everyday lives. Habits are the things we do on a regular basis, sometimes without even thinking about it. We don’t just happen to focus on something or someone, it becomes intentional. Focus is trained behavior, purposeful activity.

We must deliberately direct our thoughts and affections toward God’s plans, it doesn’t just happen by mere coincidence.

Spiritual Eclipse

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind the earth so that the earth blocks the sun's rays from striking the moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, there is always a full moon the night of a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse can last for a few hours.

I really like looking at a full moon I think there is something majestic about its beauty. I think it would be quit fascinating to see a lunar eclipse, what a sight to behold.

1 Corinthians 15:41
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

God did not create the moon for us to worship but rather to see the glory that it brings to us in the earth. The moon is a light-bearer it brings light into the night. When the eclipse takes place the light from the sun that usually shines forth to illuminate the moon will be temporarily block by the earth. When light is blocked or impede then darkness prevails. The only way this interception of light can take place is that the earth, which is naturally dark, comes in between the two forms of light. Can you see the spiritual parallel? When something dark wants to block light from getting to something or someone it will try to align itself so that it is in the middle to impede the light from shining through.

Darkness can come in many forms for instance it can come as a word, image or thought. This word, image or thought is sent to block light. When we agree or align ourselves with this wrong thought, image or word we then allow it to block light.

God may be trying to get answers and direction to you so that you can go forward and fulfill His plan and purposes in your life but that dark word, image or thought stands in the way. The kingdom of darkness may have sent a word, thought or image of failure, disgust, pride, envy, jealousy, disappointment, anger, infidelity, etc., causing a delay in progress, you can’t go forward because there is no light shining in the path. However you must be aggressive and never let the darkness step in between you and the light.

Let the light shine and prevent eclipses in your life!

Following Through

Proverbs 15:4

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

Integrity defined
• The quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards.

Boundaries are established through integrity.

If a person’s word is no good then the boundaries and standards they set up in their lives will always be compromised. Sometimes we fail to see the long term problems that come with not keeping our word even to ourselves. We tell ourselves we are not going to do such and such or that we are not going to go here or there and before the sun sets we have compromise or faltered on what we have spoken. We reason that it is okay because it was a personal promise and did not involve anyone else. However, little do we realize we are establishing patterns of mistrust and lying in our minds, which deceive our own hearts and minds as well as others around us.

Christian's should be people with integrity; we must learn through training and practical application,  to keep our word regardless of who the word was spoken to. Of course, there will be times when you spoke something or promised to do something and for whatever reason, you had to postpone or apologize for not being able to do what you said. This however, is not an excuse for shabby, lackadaisical living.

The scripture above states that we should be willing to keep our word even if it hurts. Temporary inconveniences are a small thing compared to the consequences of a broken promise. When we lightly esteem our own words, we devalue the importance of our words; thereby, opening the door to deception.

Words are very important. We must remember the power of life and death is in our words. Let us all endeavor to come up a little higher in our integrity by keeping our word even if it is to our own hurt.

If you don’t plan on doing it.... then don’t say it.

Seeking the Honor that Comes from God Only

2Corinthians 6:4-10 (AMP)
But we commend ourselves in every way as [true] servants of God: through great endurance, in tribulation and suffering, in hardships and privations, in sore straits and calamities, In beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless watching, hunger; By innocence and purity, knowledge and spiritual insight, longsuffering and patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned love; By [speaking] the word of truth, in the power of God, with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [to attack] and for the left hand [to defend]; Amid honor and dishonor; in defaming and evil report and in praise and good report. [We are branded] as deceivers (impostors), and [yet vindicated as] truthful and honest. [We are treated] as unknown and ignored [by the world], and [yet we are] well-known and recognized [by God and His people]; as dying, and yet here we are alive; as chastened by suffering and [yet] not killed; As grieved and mourning, yet [we are] always rejoicing; as poor [ourselves, yet] bestowing riches on many; as having nothing, and [yet in reality] possessing all things.

Honor defined:
• Strong moral character or strength, and adherence to ethical principles.
• Great respect and admiration.
• Personal dignity and integrity, that sometimes leads to recognition and glory.

In the above scriptures Paul talked about some weighty things. It is never pleasant to go through temptations, test or trials, yet amid them our God will never leave us nor forsake us. Paul talked about honor and dishonor. Isn’t it amazing how a person can be honored by someone one hour and dishonored the very next minute by someone else. Honor can be toxic if it is not filtered through Christ. We must not seek to be honored by others because we set ourselves up for disappointment and discouragement. When we become distraught, depressed and confused because of a lack of honor from others this only reveals that we had our priorities all wrong. When we choose to look to human-kind for approval, acceptance and validation then we spiritually disarm ourselves and like Sampson find ourselves lying on the lap of the enemy, shaven and without power.

Jesus said, “I receive not honour from men” John 5:41.

Jesus was not a slave to the opinions of people. He was not moved off course by their approval or disapproval of Him. The scriptures said, “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.” John 2:24-25

Jesus knew the corruptness of human nature. He knew that the nature of man was selfish. A person who is controlled by selfishness will not honor you without strings attached. The honor that they give is tainted and not genuine, it is false, a mere facade. There will be times when your good is evil spoken of. There will be times when people try to defame and smear your good name to try to dishonor you. There will be times when seemingly for no apparent reason people began to despise and reject you, casting you off to the side like a dried up piece of meat. Don’t take it personal, it’s just the devil working through them trying to get you to give up, cave in and quit. The devil has trapped and shipwrecked many a soul through dishonor. Dishonor can buckle a man or woman to their knees quicker than a Karate kick to the abdomen. Dishonor has its roots in betrayal. Betrayal can leave a person feeling violated, striped, exposed, and weak both spiritually and physically.

Jesus said, “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?" John 5:44 Seeking the honor of men is a product of unbelief. Unbelief is a sign of spiritual weakness and retardation. We are not growing properly as Christians when we harbor unbelief. Faith in God is what we need to grow and flourish properly.

When we are dishonored by others, this is a demonic attack to try to ambush our faith. But be of good cheer, God did not leave His people without a defense against such a monster.

He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalms 107:20

The word of God can equip you and fortify you against any attack of dishonor. The word of God in you will never back up in defeat, it will always pursue then conqueror and subdue your enemies. The word of God will establish you so that you will only seek the honor that comes from God; everything else is just a cheap imitation. The word of God will cause you to be unmovable, unshakable, and unbreakable. But in order for this to happen we must make the word of God a high priority in our lives. We must take the time to allow the Holy Spirit to download the word in our hearts. This does not just happen through brief methodical readings of the scripture. We must lock in and engage our spirit, soul and body in the word of God. We must submerge ourselves and take long soaks in the word of Life.

You are a vessel of honor don’t be disillusioned by the picture the devil is showing you in his mirror of deception. Square your shoulders back and walk tall, God will honor you before all. Keep the faith don’t give in, you win!
