The Well Disciplined Mind

2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Discipline defined:

• a controlled orderly state, especially in a class of schoolchildren

• conscious control over lifestyle

A person with a disciplined mind will not allow their thoughts to wander and drift into idle fantasy. The disciplined mind will dismiss and destroy thoughts and suggestions that are contrary to the word of God. Discipline insures power for order. It will not tolerate chaos and confusion. Discipline is like a well trained security guard that helps to patrol the soul. It will drive around, so to speak, with its spiritual flash light and make sure there are no unwanted intruders.
Our minds are not just houses where thoughts live and die. Our minds were created by God and are a very amazing part of man’s soul. Our minds play a vital role in our spirit man’s daily victory. (For more in-depth study on the mind be sure and watch for my upcoming book, “Detoxifying the Soul” or visit our website @www.detoxifyingthesoul.com  and hit the link, mind).
A person with an undisciplined mind has difficulty in concentrating or focusing on life tasks. They are those who have several untied ends in their lives. They can run from project to project but never finish or accomplish anything. The undisciplined mind lacks calm, it often races from subject to subject creating an atmosphere of stress and instability. Weary and dissatisfied it searches for a landing place but generally does not possess the power of focus.
An unguarded thought life leads to wrong behavior. For instance, a husband or wife who allows thoughts of mistrust and false accusations from the devil to form against each other, to roam freely in their minds un-protested, will eventually have severe marital problems. An undisciplined mind flows from the heart of a coward. It is self-seeking and disregards the Love of God. Remember Love is not self-seeking but always puts others first and believes the best of them. A person with a well disciplined mind will quickly pull down any thoughts or suggestions that are opposed to love. They don’t tolerate a mental atmosphere other than peace. They will not dwell on plots and strategies that are sinful. They refuse plans that promote cheating or lying to get what they want from others. A well disciplined mind is never manipulative or negative in its operations. Negative thinking flows from the cold darkened whispers of fear and lustful demonic host that lurk in the shadows waiting for unsuspected prey. However a well disciplined mind is alert and highly developed and trained to quickly recognize and discern the corrupted sway of darkness.
The disciplined mind is one that has been and continues to be transformed and equipped by the word of God. It is strong and aggressively pursues the will of God. Its roots originate in the one and only True Vine, and do not seek to operate from two different kingdoms. It is not worldly one minute then tries to be Godly the next, it is not double minded. A well disciplined mind thinks, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”

A well discipline mind thinks like God!

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

  1. Hello, it't mjackson.Today was a trying day for me but i know this is only the beginning because i'm in the church were i'm suppose to be. God is tying all my lose ends.I join "Heaven Open Gates" Sunday(06-20-10)I went to go visit my cousin in jail today and had a old warrant, but the devil tried to get me mad, but the word from you is God didn't give me a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. That was a loose end that needed to be tied. The song "I'm so glad that Jesus lifted me" rose up in my heart, i started singing it and maybe one hour later i was free, so now I know it has begun of me stepping out of the boat. Praise the Lord!
